Yasmine and David

Yasmine and David

The thing that struck me most, almost the moment I started talking to Yasmine and David, was how much of themselves they brought to our conversations. They were so open and honest and vulnerable that I was quite struck by the weight of the privilege of what I do.

I had so much fun talking to them about how they met, how much they love dogs (and seals), the kind of life they’re building together, and the beautiful rituals from Yasmine’s Persian heritage that they wanted to weave into their ceremony.

It was one of the most intricate ceremony scripts I’ve written and I absolutely loved playing with all the different puzzle pieces and putting them together in a way that flowed, each one revealing more about this lovely couple and their lives.

I also loved working with them individually on their personal wedding vows. In these separate meetings, I usually take you through a series of questions, but we tend to follow the conversation where it wants to go too. Sometimes you’ll say something that feels small but sparks an idea for me… For example, Yasmine mentioned a song in passing that David sent her in the very early days of their getting to know one another, and how she listened to it on repeat on a varsity field trip she was on.

One of the first things I did after that meeting was to find the song – and, of course, I had to put it into Yasmine’s vows. At the beginning… and at the end, with the lyrics rewritten, because it was now their song, part of the fabric of their relationship mythology in the way that songs sometimes are.

Their very kind words are such a confirmation of why I do what I do – and how lucky I feel to meet people like Yasmine and David along the way.

“Working with Sarah to write our ceremony and vows was an incredible experience. Even though she had never met us before, it felt as if she had known us for years with the way she captured our story. She took the time to truly understand the essence of our relationship, weaving our values into a beautifully written ceremony that felt deeply personal and meaningful. Her writing is pure poetry—it had our guests in tears (in the best way!) and took the stress out of structuring a culturally diverse wedding that had never been done before. It was so special, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect representation of us!”
